BEING THE GOOD NEWS IN THE WORLD

Evangelization, which is the heart of Christian living, requires us to take the Good News to the people we encounter. Hence we need to “Be” the Good News of God’s Love to the world around. “Being” is expressed in Gospel attitudes and values and these are lived out in action. During the lockdown, our move toward the Domestic Church has focused our attention on our activities at home. We will strengthen this during the years ahead.

8 points are presented here for reflection.

How true are these about us? How do we work at them?

  1. We value relationships, within the family, in our neighbourhood and in our workplace and practice forgiveness and generosity. We are people who dialogue much (especially in conflict situations) and make efforts to build friendships with all.
  2. We show compassion to the disadvantaged by sharing our time, expertise and resources, especially in our dealings with workers and with people in need.
  3. We are honest and we neither accept bribes nor give bribes to get work done.
  4. We seek to use our professional qualifications to better the lives of others.
  5. We believe in equality among all God’s children, including with those of lower caste or economic standing and are not influenced by labels for different types of people.
  6. We believe that the religious experience of people of other faith is genuine and we respect their faith and traditions.
  7. We engage in common action through ALMs or other structures for bettering the lives of people in the locality through partnership.
  8. We involve in public policy making and join in campaigns for justice.

These are value-exercising activities which strengthen our “being” the Good News. We invite you to give examples of how they are being done in our communities, neighbourhood and workplace or to find ways for how they could be done. We must encourage one another by sharing “best practices.” We ask for discernment through the Holy Spirit who will teach us to be like Jesus.
