St. Peter’s Church received a BMC Notice on the 2nd of Jan, for the takeover of a slice of the land of our Seaside Cemetery for road-widening, due to a sudden change in the Development Plan of Mumbai, made by the present Government of Maharashtra in Sept 22. A legal representation has been made to the BMC, regarding the religious sensitivities connected to this century-old cemetery and to the fact that a parallel DP road is available for the purpose of access. There are social media messages circulating regarding a temporary Withdrawal Notice by the BMC but this Notice has not yet reached the Church. The Bombay Catholic Sabha organized a meeting attended by about 500 people on Friday 6th Jan at which it was decided to hold a Candle-light Prayer March on Tue 10th Jan, starting from St. Peter’s Square at 5.30 pm to the Seaside Cemetery.
